With the Model 9056 fitted to a PD-6, the operator now has a choice of two primary recording mediums: a 40GB internal hard disk drive or the standard 8cm 'mini' DVD-RAM drive providing for extended recording time and dual-copy redundancy.
Formatted in 1.46GB partitions to match one side of an 8cm 'mini' DVD-RAM disc, the 40GB internal hard disk drive essentially holds twenty-six 8cm "mini" DVD-RAM sides of audio files/takes. Choosing either the hard drive or the DVD-RAM as the primary recording drive allows the operator to manually copy files/takes and/or duplicate "disks" between each other. Furthermore, when selecting the 40GB internal hard disk drive as the primary recording media, it is possible to set the PD-6 to automatically "mirror" files/takes to the 8cm DVD-RAM drive in three different modes:
Mirroring
Recording to both hard disk and 8cm DVD-RAM simultaneously. Even file edits performed after recording will be reflected over both disks.
Immediate Auto Copy
Recording to hard disk with immediate copy to 8cm DVD-RAM.
Background Auto Copy
Audio recorded to the hard disk is copied to 8cm DVD-RAM automatically while PD-6 is idling (i.e. not in record).
This flexibility means that at the end of a day's shooting, the DVD-RAM can be handed off to the cutting rooms almost immediately while a duplicate set of files/takes are held on the internal hard disk drive until deleted by the operator. While files/takes can be recorded directly to the internal 40GB hard drive if selected as the primary recording medium, files/takes need to be then transferred to the PD-6's DVD-RAM in order to export them. This can be done automatically or as a batch process as previously mentioned.
